Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

The goal of CACFP is to improve the health of young children through improved nutrition served by child care providers and preschools. Through CACFP licensed family child care providers and child care centers are reimbursed for serving nutritious and healthy meals and snacks to the children in their care.

Target Outcomes

Short Term Outcomes

  • Children are served nutritious meals and snacks
  • Increase in children's consumption of milk and vegetables
  • Increase in the number of child care programs providing nutritious meals and snacks
  • Child care providers know what a nutritious meal/snack is and value it

    Long Term Outcomes

    • Decrease in obesity related disease among low-income children
    • Increase in low-income children performing at or above grade level
