Gang Prevention Through Targeted Outreach

The Gang Prevention Through Targeted Outreach program is a community wide gang prevention program that attempts to intervene with youths at risk of gang involvement. Targeted Outreach incorporates four objectives:

  • Community mobilization of resources to combat the community gang problem
  • Recruitment of at-risk youth or youth already involved in gangs through outreach and referral
  • Promoting positive developmental experiences by developing interest-based programs that address specific needs
  • Providing individualized case management to target youth to decrease gang related

Short Term Outcomes

  • Decreased gang involvement
  • Decreased negative interactions with the criminal justice system
  • Increased school attendance
  • Improved grades

Long Term Outcomes

  • Increased high school graduation
  • Increased enrollment in college or career training programs
  • Decrease in community violence
  • Decreased expense to the criminal justice system
