Upstream Results Statement: Sonoma County invests early in prevention efforts, invests wisely in approaches proven to work and invests together in aligned priorities for maximum community-wide impact.

Portfolio Review Committee Results Statement: An increase in prevention focused, high fidelity, evidence-based and evidence-informed programs implemented in Sonoma County will uproot poverty and reduce monetary and societal costs to our community.

Performance Measure: Invest Wisely - How well are we doing it?
Number of providers implementing EBPs showing a change in program outcomes

Themes from April Discussion

  • After four years of disasters, many of our non-profits continue to operate in fight or flight mode
  • Funders are responding to a very real need to get money out into the community as fast as possible which contributes to a decreased use of “Upstream” and “upstream” criteria in funding decisions
  • Decreased marketing from Upstream and possible market saturation may be contributing to the decrease in Portfolio applications and renewals
  • We have seen an increase in organizations using logic models and implementing evaluations outside of the Upstream framework. There is a lot of “upstream” work happening well outside the scope of the Portfolio.
  • Trainings are valuable and could be expanded and wrapped up in a community clearinghouse that identifies upstream activities beyond the Portfolio.

1:30 Create an Action Plan to Turn the Curve

Knowing that there’s more to the Portfolio than what we’re doing – what are some one-word/single phrase themes to describe the work that’s happening and the work that could happen?

Proposed themes:

  • Training
  • Convening
  • Expanded EBP/EIP Recognition
  • Outreach
