TranslateNorth Bay Organizing Project
North Bay Organizing Project (Nbop) employs community organizing as its core process. Community organizing is a democratically-governed, values-driven process that catalyzes the power of individuals to work collectively to make the changes they want to see in their communities. Nbop honors and develops the leadership potential in everyday people by helping them identify problems and solutions, and then supports them as they take action to make those solutions a reality. On-going training and evaluation are key components of our operations.
Nbop’s membership comprises 20 organizations based in Sonoma County including congregations, labor and environmental organizations, student and youth groups. Through an annual cycle of listening to its membership and our communities, several problems have been identified. The membership has currently established Task Forces to address problems in: Affordable and Fair Housing; Addressing Educational Justice issues including dismantling the School to Prison Pipeline, and advocating for Ethnic Studies Curricula in the schools; Accessible and Affordable Public Transportation, and Citizen Engagement in local government.

Short Term Outcomes
- Increase in leadership breadth and depth
- Participants recognize and understand how to use their own personal power
- Participants understand the connection between their personal concerns and larger community concerns
- Increased citizen engagement in public decision making & voting in low-income and community of color neighborhoods
- Sustained and deepened relationships with partner organizations
- Improved/increased recognition by public policy entitles to the identified needs of low-income and communities of color
Long Term Outcomes
- Changes in public policies, structures, practices or resources that positively impact communities of color
& other low-income communities in Sonoma County - Changes in public policies, structures, practices or resources are protected
