Reach Out and Read prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.

Target Outcomes

Short Term Outcomes

  • Children build a library of books at home
  • Parents and children read aloud together daily
  • Parents understand the importance of reading aloud and their role in their child’s development

Long Term Outcomes

  • Children are reading at grade level in 3rd grade
  • Participants graduate from high school on time
  • Participants become literate adults effectively able to negotiate the health care system
