Ready to Work
Through the Ready to Work program, Teen Services Sonoma provides at-risk teens with work readiness services and on-the-job training, job placement services, and coaching, which instill confidence and empower them for employment and life success. We serve youth aged 14-24 and are the largest employer of teens in Sonoma Valley. We offer hands on experiences at one of our three micro-businesses and through on-the-job training (OJT) and job placement services. We provide teens real world experience and skills, paving an essential pathway to a positive start in the workplace.
Since 2010, we have worked with Sonoma Valley schools, local businesses, and youth-serving organizations to provide employment, career resources and life skills support to Sonoma Valley youth. Our headquarters serves as the Teen Center for our program. Annually, 250 youth visit the center, taking advantage of its drop-in atmosphere and educational opportunities. Youth attend cooking training in our commercial kitchen; participate in art, gardening, and fitness classes; seek homework and job-search assistance; find resources and referrals for health and social needs; and join leadership and outdoor education programs. We also offer the necessities for any teenager: a basketball/soccer court, pool and foosball tables; a computer lab; and a safe space to be him/herself. Every Monday, Santa Rosa Community Health Center's mobile van visits the Teen Center and provides teens free services in family planning, health, and counseling.
