Board approves $39 million in ARPA funding

On May 24th the Board of Supervisors approved $39,258,067 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to support disproportionately impacted individuals and households who have suffered economic impacts as well as disparities in public health outcomes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The County received 78 eligible community investment proposals requesting just over $172 million in funding. The Board approved the following funding categories: assistance to household/basic needs, childcare & childcare facilities, educational disparities, community health workers & public benefits navigators, housing & shelter, mental health, assistance to workers, small business and nonprofit, premium pay, and culturally responsive COVID-19 disaster response.

Six community-led review committees composed of volunteers reflecting the diversity of Sonoma County, with particular regard to Black, Indigenous and other communities of color, scored each proposal, elevating 39 projects to the funding review committee. The funding review committee conducted a rigorous review using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies which resulted in recommending 27 proposals for funding. On May 24th, 2022, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the funding recommendations.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted a proposal, the review committee who dedicated countless hours, the equity workgroup, the community, and staff who worked tirelessly to ensure that funds are distributed to address the disproportionate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in our community.

Next Steps

The County is in contract negotiations with ARPA awardees. Contracts will include  Equity-Centered Results-Based Accountability (EC-RBA) metrics.
